Top Morning Sickness Remedies That Really Work

During pregnancy, it is estimated that 50 to as high as 80 percent of women suffer from morning sickness and finding morning sickness remedies can be challenging for some. Morning sickness includes nausea or vomiting and sensitivity to certain foods and smells. But more often than not, nausea is almost always associated with pregnancy and morning sickness.

Although it often manifests in the morning, hence the name, morning sickness sometimes happens in the morning or even in the evening. For most women, the feeling generally dissipates by the 13th or 14th week of pregnancy and most women will feel better after. But there are others who feel nauseated even all the way to their second trimester of pregnancy.

A short trip to the doctor can provide pregnant women with relief from morning sickness but according to recent studies by the Canadian government, more than 60% of pregnant women would rather go for natural remedies. Some would recommend ginger tea or acupressure but here are a few more tips on how to alleviate the feeling of nausea in the first few months of pregnancy:

  1. Frequent but smaller meals. Eating smaller meals more frequently can help expecting moms in their struggle with morning sickness. By eating smaller meals, they are not too hungry or too full at any time of the day. Experts recommend having a pack of crackers and water beside the bed so that small meals are always available when there is that feeling of wanting to munch something.
  2. Avoid fatty and/or fried foods. Fatty or fried foods, like those found in fast-food chains, have been proven time and again to aggravate the feeling of nausea. And one of the best recommended morning sickness remedies include avoiding these fatty and fried foods at all times.  While it may be tempting to eat those half-pound burgers with cheese, bacon and mushroom, just don’t.
  3. Avoid spices. Spices like pepper, paprika, all spice, five spice may boost the flavor of any meals, the downside is that it also adds to the feeling of nausea during pregnancy. Avoiding these can help.

Morning sickness can be triggered by different factors. So it is important that pregnant women identify what these are and try to avoid them. To avoid dehydration, especially when vomiting, women should also drink enough water or fluids as one of their morning sickness remedies.
